Many girls and women in refugee camps and in destroyed areas gather together to memorize the Quran amid the war and destruction.
Al Jazeera has talked to one group of girls and women Quran memorizers in the Gaza Strip.
The memorizers, who are of different ages, gather in a building destroyed in the Israeli regime’s relentless bombings of Gaza.
The building has turned into a refuge for those interested in learning the Quran by heart.
Raeim is one of the girls who says reading and memorizing the Quran gives them strength.
She says many of the participants in the memorization sessions have lost their family members but are still keen to learn the Quran.
Sundus, another girl, says no matter what problems or difficulties they face, they continue learning the Quran as it gives them peace and security.
